Baltimore Beatdown
After Emery Jones Jr. played 16 snaps at left guard last week, the rookie did not see the field against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Andrew Vorhees resumed his role as the every-down starter there, along with the other four offensive linemen who also played 100% of snaps. The Ravens’ offense was on the field for 80 snaps in total — their highest mark in quite some time.
Zay Flowers (74 snaps) and Rashod Bateman (69 snaps) dominated wide receiver playing time as the Ravens went heavy on two-wideout alignments. Flowers had a season-high eight receptions for 124 yards, both of which led the team by far. Deandre Hopkins played only 13 snaps and saw one target, while LaJohntay Wester (five snaps) and Tylan Wallace (three snaps) were not a part of the game plan.
Similarly, at the tight end position, Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely consumed most of the reps available. Andrews played 54 snaps (68%) and Likely played 48 snaps (60%), but the latter only had one catch for nine yards on five targets. Likely’s four receptions and six targets both finished second on the team. He caught a touchdown pass and nearly had a go-ahead score in the fourth quarter, but his end zone catch was overturned and ruled incomplete in a questionable call.
In the backfield, Rasheen Ali (27 snaps) again played a big role as the primary third-down running back. Derrick Henry’s 43 snaps led the way, though, and he received 25 carries. Henry was given a healthy dose of rushing attempts in the second half. Keaton Mitchell played 12 snaps before exiting the game with a knee injury and he did not return. Mitchell rushed six times for 76 yards with a season-long run of 55 yards.
Kyle Hamilton was the only defensive back to go the distance in this game, playing all 52 snaps. He was closely followed by Alohi Gilman (98%), Marlon Humphrey (98%), and Nate Wiggins (94%). Malaki Starks, whose been a regular near the top of the snap count every week, saw a drop in playing time. Starks was on the field for 37 defensive plays (71%). The Ravens gave up multiple 30+ yard receptions and 284 passing yards in total.
Roquan Smith played 100% of snaps as well and recorded a team-high 10 tackles. Teddye Buchanan’s 41 snaps saw him nearly come up with a key forced turnover in the second half, but it was overturned upon further review in another questionable officiating call. Both linebackers had one tackle for loss.
On the edge, Dre’Mont Jones led the way with 41 snaps, just one snap ahead of Mike Green (77%). Kyle Van Noy’s usage dropped to only 22 snaps, nearly half of his playing time last week. David Ojabo saw eight defensive snaps. The Ravens did not record a single sack on Aaron Rodgers and only had one quarterback hit.
