NFL Draft odds usually experience some of the most drastic changes of any futures market.
Any bit of news coming from an NFL insider regarding a certain team’s draft plans could alter the markets on any given day between now and the time the No. 1 overall pick is announced in Green Bay on April 24th.
A lot of the extreme fluctuation will happen closer to the draft after rosters are shaped through free agency and top prospects take more individual meetings with teams.
However, it is worth noting that Abdul Carter’s odds to be the No. 1 pick have dipped a bit from +180 to +150 at BetMGM.
The prevailing logic is that one of Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders, or Cam Ward will likely be the Tennessee Titans’ No. 1 overall pick.
Hunter is arguably the most athletic player in the draft class, and while it sounds like he will play cornerback in the NFL, there’s always a chance he pops up at wide receiver throughout his rookie campaign.
Ward and Sanders are the top two quarterbacks in the draft class, and because this is the NFL and quarterbacks are in high demand, they will be projected top three picks for the rest of the pre-draft process.
Carter, though, is a fascinating player to watch because he actually might be the best player in the class.
Although, if you’re an Eagles fan, you hope everything bad comes out about Carter and that he somehow drops to No. 32 so the Penn State product can play for his hometown team.
If we were judging the draft solely based on who is the best player in the draft class, Carter has a fair shake to be in the No. 1 overall pick conversation.
Tennessee needs an upgrade at quarterback, and so do the Browns and Giants, who might be desperate to trade up to top pick if they can offer the right price to the Titans.
Now, look, there’s always a chance things go haywire at the top of the draft, as we saw when Travon Walker went first to Jacksonville in 2022.
That was more the exception to the recent trend in which six of the last seven No. 1 overall picks have been a quarterback. Myles Garrett was the last defensive end prior to Walker go to No. 1.
The odds are in Carter’s favor right now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they dip and move all over the place before April 24th because of all the speculation and conjecture that comes from the draft process.
