Breaking down the contract details from 49ers CB Deommodore Lenoir’s extension
The San Francisco 49ers locked down one of their own earlier this week after agreeing to an extension with Deommodore Lenoir.
On Friday morning, general manager John Lynch shared why the 49ers chose to make Lenoir a cornerstone of the franchise moving forward:
“It’s not real normal that we extend guys during the course of the year. We tried this in training camp. Really convicted on the player. When you think about all he does for us. He plays the nickel position. He’s involved in run fits. That gets grimy.
Then he goes outside at the corner position. That’s a hard position to play in this league. He’s tough. He’s physical. He’s confident. He’s gotten better every practice, every year since he’s been here. He really is what we want to be in our players and what we cover in our players.
I think the greatest testament to him was how happy the entire place was for him. He was a fifth-round pick who went through tough times early on. Some people questioned, "Are we going to pan out?" Young players go through struggles. We also saw some great ability.
We hung with him, but eventually, you just couldn’t not put him on the field. We’re very fortunate to have him.”
Lenoir’s contract details are out on Over The Cap. His base salary in 2025 is par for the course with now the Niners do their extensions. It’s not far off from Lenoir’s base salary in the final year of his rookie contract and cheaper than long-snapper Taybor Pepper’s.
But Lenoir is only cheap for one season. Here’s the base salary by year:
2025: $1.17M
2026: $15.7M
2027: $16.1M
2028: $16.1M
2029: $16.9M
Lenoir will be an undrafted free agent in 2030. The year 2029 is when he’ll be 30, so it’s the ideal time to extend D-Mo.
It’s a team-friendly deal in the sense that Lenoir’s guaranteed salary totals $2.46 million, with all of that being paid out in 2025. If the team wants to get out of the contract at any point, they can designate Lenoir’s release with a post-June 1 tag and save around $15 million any year after 2025.
Lenoir’s signing bonus totaled just over $13 million, but there’s an option for half each season. He can also earn a workout and per-game roster bonus of $750,000 and $100,00- each, respectively.
